7 Best Shampoos For Hair Loss & Growth (2023 Guide)

7 Best Shampoos For Hair Loss & Growth (2020 Guide)

Are you trying to stop your shedding without using pills?

Or you simply want to grow your hair faster in a comfortable manner?

Well – I normally recommend hair vitamins (because they have the strongest effect).

But if you want to avoid pills – shampoos are my #2 alternative:

  • stimulate hair roots and follicles
  • really easy to use
  • most are really cheap

For this reason – here are the 7 best shampoos for hair loss & growth in 2023.

Note: These recommendations are based on my own experience + research on these products.

#1 Recommendation – TRX2 Stimulating Shampoo ($26.95)

This is by far the best shampoo for hair loss/growth on the market.

Compared to its competitors – it has 5 unique advantages:

  1. Original ingredients that you can’t find in any other shampoos.
  2. One of the few products that are clinically tested.
  3. Very professional formula.
  4. Cheapest option among shampoos of its value.
  5. No minimum number of uses/week (even for best results).

TRX2’s producer is a brand called Oxford BioLabs.

It has a long history and a great reputation – so all of its products are extremely trustworthy.

And TRX2’s effect makes no exception:

  • works directly onto the follicles
  • stimulates growth rate and speed
  • decreases existent growth and shedding
  • also effective for thinning hair

So at this point – it’s by far the best choice you can make in terms of shampoos.

It’s surely not the cheapest option of the market.

But considering its professional formula and effect – it’s surely the best shampoo you can buy.

1. Ingredients (9.50 out of 10)

As I said – it has the best formula on the market.

There are over 15 active ingredients in total, but I will only name the most important 3:

  1. Soya Beana Germ Extract
  2. Piroctone Olamine [1]
  3. Plant Keratin
2. How It Works (9.90 out of 10)

There are very few shampoos I rated so high at this chapter.

That’s because TRX2 has a unique mechanism:

  1. Highly stimulates roots and follicles.
  2. Increases hair growth rate.
  3. Decreases hair loss caused by external factors.
  4. Also has some low DHT-blocking proprieties.
  5. Boosts scalp health and tonifies the roots.

Its mechanism + effect is one of the reasons why it’s my top recommendation.

3. Best For

1. Faster hair growth in women (in all hair types).

It works best in hair that is normally healthy.

But due to its professional formula – it’s also effective for weak or damaged hair.

2. Female hair loss (especially those cases caused by breakage, weak roots, etc.)

3. Male hair loss/growth – unless it’s caused by DHT excess.

PROs
  • One of the most professional formulas on the market
  • Excellent ingredients with clinical evidence behind
  • Pleasant citrus smell
  • Lathers well enough (like regular shampoos)
  • You’re not required to use it a certain number of times per week
  • Lasts really well (a bottle can last over a month)
  • Excellent price for the value
CONs
  • Mostly available on its official website
  • No discount when buying larger quantities
  • Very few real reviews outside its official website (but those are verified with TrustPilot)

#2 – Revita Hair Growth ($31.92)

This is one of the best-rated shampoos on Amazon (which tells a lot about its quality).

That’s why Revita is one of my top recommendations.

So what makes this product so special?

I would name 3 aspects:

  1. Original formula with ingredients that can’t be found in other shampoos.
  2. Excellent for blocking DHT excess.
  3. Affordable for its professional composition.

Just like TRX2 – Revita isn’t the cheapest shampoo on the market.

But it’s surely a professional ones – which makes it more than affordable (for the quality).

Actually, in terms of effect – it’s pretty close to my top recommendation.

There are only 2 differences:

  • Revita is a few dollars pricier
  • it has to be used 5 times a day for best results

But when it comes to their effectiveness – they’re very similar.

1. Ingredients (9 out of 10)

It has an excellent formula with clinically tested ingredients:

  1. Herbs + Extracts: Procyanidin B2, Caffeine, Ornithine, Ketoconazole, Taurine [2] etc.
  2. Vitamins/Minerals: Niacinamide, Cooper Peptides, MSM, etc.
2. How It Works (9 out of 10)

Regarding its effect – Revita has lots of satisfied previous users (according to Amazon).

In fact, its mechanism is quite similar to TRX2’s:

  1. Stimulates hair follicles to stop shedding.
  2. Improves growth speed.
  3. Blocks DHT receptors on the surface to stop hair fall out.

Obviously – its effect is not as strong as an internal product’s.

But for a shampoo, it’s more than potent.

3. Best For

1. Female hair loss caused by DHT excess (but mostly milder cases).

It also works for external causes of shedding as well.

2. Hair growth in women and man who are not suffering from severe hair loss.

3. Thinning hair on the scalp.

PROs
  • Very high-quality formula and ingredients
  • Clinical evidence behind (unlike most competitors)
  • Nice citrus smell and orange color
  • Lathers normally
  • Works great against hair loss caused by breakage/weak roots
  • Lots of previous users opinions available online
CONs
  • You have to use it 5 times a week for best results
  • Needs to be applied twice in every wash
  • In this way, a bottle lasts only a few weeks
  • For this reason, it’s quite expensive in the long run

#3 – Pure Biology Reviva Shampoo ($27.95)

Reviva is another excellent product in terms of hair loss/growth.

Like its other 2 competitors from above – it has some great features:

  1. Based on original ingredients.
  2. Quite affordable for its high quality.
  3. Effective for most hair issues.

So why isn’t this shampoo higher on this list?

Well – besides its advantages, it also has some small drawbacks:

  • needs to be used daily (in the first months at least)
  • starts working only after 2-3 months
  • more side effects than in the other 2 shampoos

However, in terms of effect – it’s surely a quality and worth trying product.

Its high number of praises on Amazon are the best proof.

1. Ingredients (9 out of 10)

Its 2 main ingredients are labeled as “Proprietary Complexes”:

  1. 3HC Hair Stimulating Complex [3]
  2. Amino Kera NPNF

Other than these – there are several other herbal extracts (but in much lower doses):

  • Coconut Oil
  • Green Tea
  • Rosemary Oil
  • Saw Palmetto
2. How It Works (8.50 out of 10)

The 2 main purposes of this shampoo are:

  1. Stimulating growth speed
  2. Reducing hair fall out

Additionally – it also fights thinning, breakage and even DHT excess (in a lower degree).

3. Best For

Based on my experience with it – this shampoo works best against shedding.

1. Female hair loss (even the one produced by DHT excess).

2. Mild hair loss in men – because its DHT-blocking proprieties aren’t strong enough for severe cases.

It also seems to help with growth, but in my cases – it wasn’t as good as the other 2 shampoos.

That’s why I would recommend it more against hair loss.

PROs
  • Its main compounds are trademark ingredients
  • Professional formula overall
  • Nice consistency and smell
  • Price is quite decent at first sight
  • Many satisfied users and real reviews on Amazon
CONs
  • Has to be used daily in the first months (for best results)
  • This makes it last a lot less, which means it’s pricier than it seems
  • Side effects are more often than in other shampoos (rash, irritation)
  • Takes a few months to start working

#4 – Ryeo (Ryoe) Red Version ($19.95)

Here’s a Korean brand that has improved the shampoo market a lot lately.

Out of its over 6 different versions – the red one works best for hair loss/growth:

  1. Designed to restore damaged hair and stop the fall-out.
  2. Also promotes growth.
  3. Prevents irritation and scalp rashes.

So what makes Ryeo’s shampoo unique?

Compared to the other 3 products – it’s a lot milder with the scalp.

This means its rate of side effects is extremely low.

In terms of effect – it’s surely not as potent as the previous 3 shampoos.

But if you have a sensitive scalp combined with damaged hair falling out – it’s the best shampoo.

1. Ingredients (8 out of 10)

It has a pretty different formula than American shampoos:

  • Red Ginseng, Camellia Oil, Ohmae Extract
  • Other Herbal Extracts: Green Tea, Biota Seeds, etc.
2. How It Works (9 out of 10)

Ryeo’s red shampoo is designed for 2 major purposes:

  1. Revive and repair damaged hair.
  2. Strengthen the roots and decrease shedding.

Additionally – it also has stimulating proprieties.

3. Best For

1. Hair loss in both men and women – but mostly the one caused by breakage or damage.

2. Damaged hair in people with a sensitive scalp.

It has a milder effect on scalp – that’s why it couldn’t cause itching or rashes too soon.

PROs
  • Formula is 100% natural (with herbal ingredients)
  • Different mechanism than American/European shampoos
  • Price is very low
  • Several other versions available (each for a certain hair problem)
  • Many positive reviews on Amazon
CONs
  • Labels are only written in Korean
  • Not as effective for hair growth as for shedding
  • More liquid texture
  • Strong is more intense than in most shampoos

#5 – Lipogaine Rejuvenating Shampoo

Lipogaine offers 4 different shampoos (all designed for hair loss/growth):

  1. For Women (Normal Or Sensitive Scalp)
  2. For Men (Normal Or Sensitive Scalp)

Basically – just like Ryeo’s product from above, it’s also a great choice for people with sensitive scalps.

In terms of effect – Lipogaine looks promising:

  • add volume and thicken strands
  • promote growth
  • decrease shedding and breakage

However – its features aren’t as amazing as the first 3 shampoos from my list.

It surely works, but not in such a high percent.

1. Ingredients (8 out of 10)

Like most shampoos – there’s a longer list of ingredients.

But out of the active ones, the most important are:

  • Argan Oil
  • Castor + Emu Oil
  • Caffeine
2. How It Works (8 out of 10)

This shampoo works directly on the hair roots:

  • decreases breakage and strengthens hair strands
  • increases growth
  • reduces fall out due to breakage

But as I said – its mechanism isn’t as strong as the top 3 products from this list.

3. Best For

1. Hair loss in women/men suffering from breakage and weak hair.

2. People with hair loss and sensitive scalps.

I would also recommend it to those using Lipogaine’s treatments (combining them with the shampoos leads to a better effect).

PROs
  • Formula based on herbal extracts and natural compounds
  • Pleasant smell and texture
  • Doesn’t have to be used daily/every 2 days
  • Strengthens the roots and reduces breakage
  • Easy to find on retailers like Amazon
  • Quite affordable
CONs
  • Ingredients aren’t very powerful
  • Doesn’t work as well as the previous products
  • Takes a few months to start working

#6 – Klorane Shampoo ($16.00)

The main reason why I included Klorane on this list is its really low price.

In terms of effect – it’s definitely not bad, but not amazing either:

  1. Mostly effective against thinning and hair loss.
  2. Also stimulates growth speed.
  3. Effective for thickening hair.

The main downside of this shampoo is its pretty basic formula.

Even though it works in some cases – it has a lower success rate (than the other 5 products).

Besides, its rather masculine smell can be a drawback for women.

That’s why I would rather recommend it as a male shampoo.

That even though it’s designed for both genders.

1. Ingredients (7 out of 10)

Klorane’s formula is based on 2 main active ingredients:

  1. Quinine
  2. Vitamin B Complex

Overall – it’s surely not the most potent formula in terms of shampoos.

2. How It Works (8 out of 10)

This shampoo has both positive and negative reviews.

But in terms of mechanism – it works in 2 ways:

  • vitalizes and strengthens roots
  • stimulates thickness and growth
3. Best For

1. Men dealing with minor thinning/shedding.

Since this shampoos has a masculine scent – I believe it’s more suitable for men.

2. Women with dry hair falling out.

Klorane’s product actually does a good job when it comes to revitalizing lifeless hair.

See My Full Review

PROs
  • Original composition and ingredients
  • Lathers quite well
  • Large quantity for the price
  • Really affordable overall
  • Very effective when it comes to strength and thickening hair
CONs
  • Not effective in many cases
  • Pretty weak formula in general
  • Masculine and strong smell

#7 – Ultrax Labs Hair Surge ($69.99)

The last product on my list is a really quality shampoo.

I would actually say that it’s close to my top 2 recommendations (in terms of potency):

  1. Excellent formula with strong ingredients
  2. Clinical evidence behind some compounds
  3. Enough satisfied users

So why isn’t Ultrax Labs’ shampoo rated higher?

Well – unlike most of the products from this list, it costs a small fortune at $70/bottle.

Plus, you have to use it about 5 times a week.

This means a bottle isn’t going to last more than 2-3 weeks.

For this reason – its actual price is actually higher than $70.

So despite being a quality shampoo – it’s not among my top recommendations.

1. Ingredients (9 out of 10)

Hair Surge is based on 3 essential ingredients:

  1. Caffeine
  2. Ketoconazole
  3. Saw Palmetto
2. How It Works (9 out of 10)

In terms of effect – this shampoo isn’t disappointing at all:

  • boost growth rate and speed
  • prevents breakage and shedding
  • improves thinning hair

But as I said, it needs to be applied very often in order to work at its best.

3. Best For

It actually works well enough against hair loss/thinning – but also for growth.

But I would only recommend it for people who have a huge budget.

Otherwise – my top recommendations have a slightly better formula for half of this price.

See My Full Review

PROs
  • Reputable brand behind with a quality formula
  • Some of its ingredients are clinically tested
  • Pleasant citrus smell
  • Many satisfied users
  • Easy to find in most retailers
CONs
  • Extremely expensive (the priciest from this list)
  • You need to use it 5 times/week for best effect
  • One bottle runs out faster than one month
  • Enough unsatisfied customers as well

My Verdict – What’s The Best Hair Loss/Growth Shampoo?

Short answer: I would definitely say TRX2 Stimulating Shampoo.

Among all products on the market – it has the best features for the price:

  1. Excellent formula with unique composition.
  2. Some ingredients are clinically tested.
  3. One of the few professional products.
  4. Doesn’t have to be used daily/every 2 days.
  5. Really affordable for its actual value.

Now – all shampoos from this list are pretty much worth buying.

But if you want to make the most of your money, I strongly recommend TRX2.

Plus – I would advise you to associate it with a supplement:

  • much stronger effect
  • results appear a lot faster (even in a few weeks)
  • treats the real cause of hair loss from the inside

My top recommended supplement is called Folexin.

And just like TRX2 – it has the lowest price on the market for the quality.

So if you want the best hair loss/growth combination – I strongly recommend combining these 2 products.

That’s the easiest way to get the best effect in a short time.
