Lightening hair dyed too dark

The best way to lighten hair naturallyEither you’re interested in lightening hair dyed/ colored too dark or if you want to naturally lighten dark hair, you’ve come to the right place to find this out. 🙂 I want to show you several ways in which you can lighten your hair without using hair dye or any other chemical product. Why? Because all these ingredients cosmetic products contain can seriously damage your hair, so much that you might even regret using them.

That said, let’s get to work. If you want to lighten your hair in a natural way, you can use stuff found no further than in your own kitchen! Though I’m not a huge fan of light hair and I always return to dark hair no matter what, I’ve tried these ingredients myself and I can say they work. Some of them not as well as they say, but they do work.

Lemon juice

This is probably the most famous natural ingredient for hair lightening, and I believe one of the reasons for this is that its effect is quite fast and visible. When it comes to me, this is the method that worked best, so I wrote it as a number one.

best way lighten hair lemon juiceAs lemon contains citric acids, it works very well for any kind of lightening, so you should mix a glass of fresh lemon juice with half a glass of water. In case you want to obtain a lighter (and faster) color, you can try to apply the lemon juice without diluting it with water.

Because lemon contains those acids mentioned before, it could dry your hair, especially if you have curly hair, which is more prone to dryness. In order to prevent this, you can also apply some conditioner together with the lemon juice (diluted or not).

After applying it to your hair, it is recommended to sit in the sun, so that the lemon juice has a better effect. To be honest, I haven’t done that and I still got a lighter color, so in my opinion, this is an optional instruction. You just have to keep the mixture for at least half an hour and then rinse deeply, and you will see a change. At least I have, after only one try. In case you don’t, you can try it again and you’ll notice that your hair is (at least) a bit lighter.

This is also an ingredient that helped me very much, simply because it helped me get rid of one of the things I really hated about my hair: natural highlights. I know most people would call me crazy, because there are a lot of women who pay a lot of money to get highlights, but I really hated them. Maybe I’ll change my mind if I don’t have them anymore, but I don’t really think so.

So, my hair had visible differences of color between the roots and the ends. This was probably because of the sun exposure or who knows, maybe that’s s my hair. Anyway, I had a very dark brown, almost black color at the roots, and a brown color to my hair ends. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you may realize that normally I want the very dark brown shade all over my hair, but once I wanted to give it a try and see if I liked a lighter color. I knew I wouldn’t, but I just wanted to try, in the end I could easily return to my dark hair 😀

As you probably suppose, I only applied it on my roots, because I didn’t wanna make my hair ends get even lighter. So, I applied it on my hair and left it over the night. As far as I know, the minimum is 2-3 hours, but if you can, leave it over night, it won’t make your hair too blond 🙂

After rising with a lot of water to get that thick mixture out of my hair (it was pretty hard, that’s true), I let my hair dry naturally and noticed a much lighter color at my roots. Finally, my hair was no longer highlighted!

Obviously, I didn’t like how I looked with such a light hair and returned to my dark color after a few weeks. But the cinnamon method really did its job, and it did not harm my hair at all, so I was satisfied with having tried 😀

Even though it’s very sticky and very hard to rinse, honey is a common ingredient of hair masks and hair treatments because it has moisturizing proprieties and it can also lighten your hair. This is because honey contains benzoyl peroxide, an organic compound similar to hydrogen peroxide, which is known as oxygenated water. You have definitely heard of the last as a lightening agent, but I bet you didn’t know honey contains a similar substance. I didn’t, for sure.

The effects may or may not be visible from the first time, it depends. But if you try this thing three times, there has to be at least a small lightening 😀

However, if you want a rapid and a clear lightening, I recommend you to use either lemon juice or cinnamon. They have a very good effect even on darker hair, so you can really count on them.

Have you tried any natural ingredients in order to lighten your hair? If you have, I’m really curious what you used and how it worked. At the same time, if I can be of any use to you, don’t hesitate to write me and I’ll be really glad to give you an opinion or an advice 😀
